Hoi An by daylight

Although we had been in Hoi An for two evenings, we had not yet actually explored the pretty riverside town during the day time. So after breakfast we set off for town on the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus. At least we should have been on the shuttle, but it seems that it had got filled up by sharp elbowed Chinese who were not actually booked on it. (Bloody Chinese are everywhere in Hoi An, and they are unfailingly noisy and rude, and travel in packs). No matter, the hotel organised a large taxi to take us into town with a charming Australian family, and it was nice to chat with them and exchange travel notes.

Hoi An is a bit of a tourist trap (think of an Oriental Bourton on the Water), but all the buildings are no more that two stories and their heritage has been well preserved. The town centre is alegedly reserved for cycles and pedestrians only, so provides a respite from the interminable bloody scooters, and is therefore a very pleasant place to wander around for a morning.

There are several historic buildings you can visit, such as temples and old merchant houses, and a lot of gift shops. There are also coffee shops, leather goods shops and tailors (they will knock you a suit up overnight) all of which seem to be Hoi An specialties.

Including the famous Japanese covered bridge. Those pink cones by the way, are the biggest incense sticks you'll ever see, they must burn for days.

There are also a few 'traditional' Vietnamese characters out and about along the river.

Anyway, the time has finally come to say goodbye to Hoi An, and indeed Vietnam for a few days, and we are now waiting at the airport for our flight to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) in Cabodia.

...

P.S.

My God it's got propellers...and the tiniest overhead lockers. There's a whole bunch of folks on this flight who's cabin bags just ain't gonna fit. There's a lady across the aisle from me who has somebody else's bag under the seat in front of her.she has zero leg room, I would be furious, this is a two hour flight.

P.P.S.

Finally we arrive at the Angkor Palace Hotel, and another room upgrade (well done Jayne), and look what they did to our bed!
