We left Hope Town after breakfast and headed for Tahiti Beach. This is a long sand bank that stretches off Elbow Cay. It is really big at low tide but being as low tide is either 06:30 or 17:00, we could not make it at low tide. We took the dinghy to the sand bank and explored the shoreline.
At about midday, a drinks barge arrives and moors up. We waded out to the boat and were the first in line for cocktails - most enjoyable!
After quenching our thirst, we returned to The Odyssea and made the short journey to Seaspray Marina. A dip in the pool, a long refreshing shower and a late lunch in the bar of chicken tacos, vegetable kebabs and a large garden salad. Delicious.
We watched the fishing pleasure boats return and clean their catch. We have put the lure out most days but not managed to catch anything we can eat, but we live in hope! That evening, Simon and I walked about 10 minutes up the road to The Abaco Inn for a couple of drinks. A popular (and expensive) place where we could sit and watch the Atlantic and it’s pounding waves on one side and the calm Sea of Abaco on the other. A tricky walk back to the marina along the dark, dusty track for a nightcap at the bar before retiring to The Odyssea.
We are still having generator issues but having electricity at the marina meant another wonderful hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, beans and toast cooked by Paul. We left the marina and headed for Little Harbour and Pete’s Pub. The plan was to stop on route at Tilloo Bank but the weather changed and it was raining. Just off Tilloo Bank Simon caught a fish but lost it.. we did see it jump out of the water and it looked as if it was a large Mutton Head Snapper, I’m sure it would have made fine eating. The one that got away!
We found a mooring buoy at Little Harbour and took the dinghy ashore to Pete’s Pub. The weather had cleared up and the sun came out again. A vibrant and buzzing place we managed to find a table and ordered drinks. There was a DJ and T Shirts have been hung up all over the pub by visitors.
We ordered our food ; trigger fish and sweet chilli mahi. After a few more rum punches/beers, Simon and I went for an explore. We went to see the abandoned light house and then found a deserted beach for a late afternoon dip.
We got back to the dinghy but had trouble starting it so we decided to row back to The Odyssea. Only problem was, an oar was missing. We must have lost it when crossing from Seaspray Marina. Luckily, we did get the outboard started but we are now at risk whenever we take the dinghy out.
